Why and How We Started
Climate & Conflict
In 2023, as conflict disrupted lives and communities across Sudan, a group of passionate young Sudanese climate leaders — some living in displacement, others continuing their work from abroad — came together around a unifying question: what would it take to keep Sudanese climate action alive and resilient amidst crises?
In 2024, we spent a year listening, learning, and building — surveying 100+ local initiatives, holding in-depth conversations with 20+ practitioners, and mapping where efforts were succeeding but scattered. What we found was both a painful gap and a tremendous opportunity: Sudanese talent, innovation, and commitment to climate justice are everywhere — yet fragmented, isolated, and disconnected from the global support that could help them grow.
Soft Launch
The finding behind our year-long study introduced us to what is beyond Sudan's rich treasures: A land whose people have always found ways to build, adapt, and endure.
These initiatives exist — fragmented, often working in isolation — but they need to meet each other. Collective action compounds. Resilience, built together, outlasts resilience built alone. That is the future we're mapping toward.
Soft Launch
In early 2025, our advocacy and presence in multiple platforms gave us the credibility to officially soft launch the Sudan Climate Collective - opening its doors of a growing home bringing together people, projects, and possibilities for a climate-resilient Sudan.
Within the vulnerability of this moment, there is room to grow; inside the crisis, there was opportunity. That is the renewed conviction behind this work: to support and build a Sudan layered by initiatives that have already helped build resilience, long before we arrived.
